THE CHOSEN ONE Joss Whedon is staking his claim to another female superhero. Warner Bros. is on the verge of lassoing the Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind to write and direct the studio's long-gestating Wonder Woman feature film, TV Guide Online has learned. The almost-done deal comes just two months after Whedon announced that he was getting out of the TV biz to focus on making movies, beginning with his forthcoming Firefly flick, Serenity. Meanwhile, there's no word on who Whedon may tap to fill Lynda Carter's satin tights, but I'm going to go out on a limb and throw Sarah Michelle Gellar's name into the mix. (Yes, this is how rumors get started, folks.) |
AMAZING DISGRACE Amazing Race nutjob Jonathan Baker is speaking out about last Wednesday's episode, in which he was seen verbally and physically attacking his wife Victoria as Phil Keoghan and Co. looked on. In a rambling (and grammatically imperfect) message posted on the couple's Website, Jonathan blamed his chronic tantrums on a combination of stress and drugs. "I do not abuse Victoria," he maintained. "What you see is a heightened version of stress and obsession, mixed with medication for a sickness called Sarcoidosis. What started as a publicity stunt turned into an obsession to... be first at any cost. Victoria and I are working on our relationship to better our self and learn from our mistakes." Added Victoria (or at least we think it was Victoria): "Don't worry, I am fine. It's a TV show and not a true reflection of our relationship. We both over-reacted." Is someone gonna help me stage this intervention, or am I gonna have to do it myself?!? |
FORTUNATE EVENTS Jim Carrey's Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events topped the weekend box office with $30.2 million, knocking Ocean's Twelve to second place with $18.3 million. Adam Sandler's Spanglish debuted in third with a not-so bueno $9 million. |
NEVER SAY NEVER Dozens of grade-school kids visited the scene of Michael Jackson's alleged crimes — Neverland Valley Ranch — on Friday at the invitation of the embattled baby dangler. A spywitness said the children appeared excited and happy to be there, although it was unclear where they came from or if they were even human. |
PAGING MARTHA STEWART... Thursday's painfully bloated Apprentice 2 climax averaged just under 17 million viewers, down an alarming 40 percent from Season One's finale. On the bright side, Jen's three-hour lynching was a demo winner, giving NBC its best adult 18-49 rating on the night since September. |
SOUND MIND The Washington D.C. Film Critics Assn. has named Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind the best picture of the year. The group also singled out Jamie Foxx as best actor and supporting actor for Ray and Collateral, while Imelda Staunton and Cate Blanchett nabbed best actress and supporting actress honors for their respective roles in Vera Drake and The Aviator. |
STORK REPORT Hollywood's new fertility poster couple, Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards — who just welcomed daughter Sam Sheen in March — already are expecting their second child, per People. Baby No. 2 is due in June. |
NO SHOW The third season premiere of Comedy Central's red-hot Chappelle's Show has been pushed back from Feb. 16 to early May, according to the New York Post. Dave Chappelle apparently got a late start due to a nasty flu bug. |
