AND THEN THERE WERE TWO
In one of his more inexplicable boardroom verdicts, Donald Trump fired Kevin Allen and Sandy Ferreira on last night's penultimate Apprentice, leaving 30-year-old Barbie girl Jennifer Massey (um, huh?) and 37-year-old military man Kelly Perdew to duke it out in next Thursday's three-hour finale. The decision to pink-slip well-credentialed Kevin instead of do-nothing Jen (um, huh?) is already raising some eyebrows, mostly because the former proved himself a formidable opponent while the latter sat around and brushed her hair. Over on Survivor: Vanuatu, Julie, the 23-year-old nudist from Maine, got the boot, setting the stage for Sunday's final showdown between Twila, Scout, Chris and Eliza. Got questions for Kev, Sandy or Jules? Send 'em my way ASAP.
THIS IS A BUMMER
Citing a packed schedule, Nicole Kidman has dropped out of Mel Brooks' big-screen adaptation of Broadway's The Producers. The Oscar winner was slated to play Ulla, the Swedish bombshell who works as a secretary for Max Bialystock (Nathan Lane) and Leo Bloom (Matthew Broderick). Somewhere, a dazed and confused Anna Nicole Smith is wandering the streets of Los Angeles looking for her agent.
I FEEL UPBEAT
Godfather of Soul James Brown has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 71-year-old music icon will undergo surgery on Dec. 15. "I have overcome a lot of things in my life," Brown said in a statement. "I will overcome this as well."
THE MYSTERY DEEPENS
Don't look now, Teri Hatcher, but your new boyfriend is two-timing you with Reba McEntire! James Denton (aka Desperate Housewives' Mike Delfino) will guest-star on a February sweeps episode of WB's Reba as a love interest for McEntire's character. Wanna bet they have a daughter named Dana?
SIMON SAYS
Missing CBS's now-defunct The Guardian? Well, the show's star, Simon Baker, has been cast opposite Sanaa Lathan in Focus Features' interracial love story 42.4 Percent. Baker will next be seen in The Ring 2.
WILL MICKEY HAVE A ROLE?
Showtime is developing a two-hour movie about the doomed relationship between Hollywood power players Michael Eisner and Mike Ovitz. According to Variety, Two Blind Mikes will delve into the duo's tumultuous times at Disney, their current courtroom fracas and their climactic battle in hell.
MALL RATS
Fox has greenlit The Other Mall, a half-hour comedy set at an aging Midwest shopping mecca, Variety reports. Six Feet Under's David Hornsby will star as a young go-getter who's put in charge of the mall after it's sold to a big corporation. His first task: Pulling the plug on Merry Go Round.
MOURNED
Jerry Scoggins, the crooner who sang the theme to The Beverly Hillbillies, died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 93.
AND FINALLY...
Jeopardy's ratings have fallen off sharply since Ken Jennings' record winning streak ended last week. In related news, the sky is blue.
