DANCING QUEEN
On last night's Dancing With the Stars finale, General Hospital knockout and self-professed underdog Kelly Monaco, with partner Alec Mazo, out-shimmied frontrunner John O'Hurley and Charlotte-with-three-syllables Jorgensen to score... a big ol' trophy? At least for winning Beauty & the Geek, Chuck and Caitilin split $250,000. Speaking of which, since the spelling of her name was one of the final quiz questions and I just got it right without even trying, shouldn't I get a piece of that pie? A sliver, maybe? (To get Kelly Monaco's take on her big win, read our interview with her in Friday's Soaps News column.)
JUSTICE IS BLIND
Citing insufficient evidence, the Sacramento D.A.'s office has elected not to prosecute American Idol loser and all-around class act Corey Clark on charges of misdemeanor battery. Sorry, but if eggs Benedict on the ceiling doesn't prove there was a food fight, I don't know what does. Where's Sam Waterston when you need him?
FIGHT CLUB
Now that VH1 Divas Live... er, Live 8 is over and done with, the rumor mill is beginning to clog from all the grist it's being fed. According to the New York Post, Madonna avoided Mariah Carey like the plague at the Hyde Park concert. In fact, the children's book author and onetime cone-bra model was overheard saying that when the artist sometimes known as Mimi left her trailer, "That's when I'm outta here." Elsewhere at the show, Rod Stewart's daughter, Kimberly aka the poor man's Paris dissed Sting, and even though they performed together, Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and David Gilmour "wouldn't even look at each other backstage," reports Steppin' Out.
B.I.G. TWIST
Amid allegations that the LAPD had withheld enough pertinent documents to fill a phone book, a federal judge declared a mistrial yesterday in the Notorious B.I.G.'s wrongful death case. The felled rapper's family, natch, plans to refile its lawsuit against the city and its cops.
SPOT ON
Today, VH1 launches Vspot, its broadband content network. Working for a dot-com, we should probably know what that means, especially since people who do know what it means can catch the premiere of Surreal Life 5 there three days earlier than the rest of us. And really, who can wait to see Janice Dickinson put Omatrocious in her place?
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE LET IT STAY IN VEGAS
Leftovers, anyone? The New York Post whispers that director Quentin Tarantino spent the weekend in Sin City with Shar Jackson, the mother of Britney Spears's stepchildren. However, Us magazine insists that the odd couple are just friends. In turn, TVGuide.com remarks, "Would you people please get your stories straight?"
MEOW MIXERS
Leonardo DiCaprio has hired Sahara screenwriter James V. Hart and his son, Jake, to adapt the Kurt Vonnegut classic Cat's Cradle for his production company. In the novel, there's a big race for a new form of ice. Or, as I like to call it, daiquiris.
HEAVEN HELP HER
Televangelist Billy Graham's oldest child, Virginia Foreman, has been charged with domestic violence after allegedly throttling her husband on a Florida highway Friday. Honey, come on there are easier ways to bump Lil' Kim out of the headlines.
THIS 'N' THAT
NYPD Blue chief Stephen Bochco is developing a half-hour Fox comedy about a minor league baseball team... Tommy Lee Jones has joined everyone from Meryl Streep to Lindsay Lohan in the cast of Robert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion... The Sound of Music screenwriter Ernest Lehman died Saturday at the age of 89.
