IDOL CHATTER
Paula Abdul's nightmare isn't over yet. According to the New York Post, Fox has agreed to meet with Abdul's alleged American Idol toy-boy, Corey Clark, to discuss his allegations that the two engaged in a torrid affair while he was a contestant on the show. Also present at the meet-and-greet will be Clark's lawyers, Idol producers and, representing Abdul, MC Skat Kat.
MR. SHOWBIZ
Comedy Central has given the greenlight to The Showbiz Show with David Spade, a weekly series that aims to do for celeb news what The Daily Show with Jon Stewart does for hard news. "There's so much that's funny in all these magazines and shows that there needs to be a different point of view," Spade told the Associated Press. "I'm not saying it has to be mean — mean jokes aren't always the funniest." Um, yes they are. Case in point...
WATERGATE UPDATE
The four blokes who were arrested Sunday for dousing Tom Cruise with a water gun at the London premiere of War of the Worlds were released on bail Monday. The pranksters were apparently shooting a comedy sketch for a new British TV show. "The stunt was intended to be lighthearted rather than malicious," a rep for the show said, "and we would apologize to Mr. Cruise for any offense caused." In related news, Cruise's career-defining appearance on Oprah will be repeated this Thursday. To enhance your viewing experience, take a drink every time Oprah declares, "The boy is gone!"
IN RELATED NEWS...
Cruise's War of the Worlds director Steven Spielberg says the media is punishing the actor for drooling over Katie Holmes in public. "Tom lost his cool because he was deliriously happy," Spielberg tells Newsweek, "and now he's being punished for his public display of happiness." Actually, he's being punished for Eyes Wide Shut.
GEEK CHIC
WB has ordered a second season of Beauty and the Geek. Since debuting last month, the Ashton Kutcher-produced reality series has consistently won its time period among its core 18- to 34-year-old demo.
IT'S A GUY THING
The long-awaited Family Guy movie will make its direct-to-DVD debut on Sept. 27. Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story finds the baby genius setting out on a road trip to track down his real father. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Beverly Hills, 90210 grads Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling will be featured in "a special gag" that is both funny and mean.
BUFFY RETURNS!
Sarah Michelle Gellar is staking claim to the title role in Universal's forthcoming big-screen adaptation of the video game American McGee's Alice. Per Variety, the film picks up with Alice after her home has been destroyed and her family killed. In related news, unreliable sources say Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman are in talks to headline a movie version of Atari's Pong. (Another example of a mean-funny joke.)
