DENIED There seems to be little interest in that Jackson family reality show I told you about Wednesday. According to USA Today, Fox, ABC and A&E Network have all passed on the project. GLENN, DON'T GO! The Shield closed out its fourth season Tuesday with 3.2 million viewers, a 52 percent increase over Season 3's finale. Overall, FX's premier cop drama enjoyed its second-most-watched season to date; only Season 2 fared better, with 3.3 million viewers. In other cable ratings, HBO's Six Feet Under kicked off its farewell season Monday with 2.6 million viewers, down 30 percent from last year. And Lisa Kudrow's Comeback stalled in its second episode Sunday, falling from 1.5 million to 925,000 viewers. At least HBO still has Carnivāle. Oh, wait they canceled that. (Still bitter, yes I am.) |
GO WIDE! NBC has recruited John Madden to serve as a game analyst when the network begins airing Sunday Night Football in 2006. Madden has spent the past three seasons on ABC's soon-to-be-defunct Monday Night Football. |
NO KIDDING Tennessee DJ Jerry Campos has sued Kid Rock for $575,000, claiming the rap-rocker punched him at a club in February causing severe, disabling and permanent injuries. On Monday Rock pleaded no contest to criminal assault and was given a suspended sentence of 11 months and 29 days in jail. He also was ordered to complete eight hours of anger-management class and replace Campos' eyeglasses, valued at $180 (and that's including a LensCrafters coupon). |
MOURNED Actor Lane Smith, best known to TV audiences as Teri Hatcher's hard-nosed Daily Planet editor on Lois & Clark, died Monday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 69. Memphis-born Smith's many other credits include the films My Cousin Vinny, The Legend of Bagger Vance and The Mighty Ducks. |
PONTIFF PLAY CBS has given the go-ahead for a four-hour miniseries about the life of late Pope John Paul II, per The Hollywood Reporter. The Eye network has also greenlit a holiday movie starring Mary Tyler Moore, a prequel to Stone Cold with Tom Selleck and a four-hour sequel to last season's highly rated Category 6: Day of Destruction titled Category 7: Deadlier and Cheesier. Mark Felt aka Deep Throat. Tom Hanks will serve as one of the film's producers.... ABC has greenlit My Kind of Town, a six-episode reality series in which small-town folks compete against one another in various comedic challenges, also per Variety.... Elton John has extended his Las Vegas show, The Red Piano, through 2008.... Sharon Stone will play a high-powered publicist in at least two episodes of Showtime's Huff. The show's second season will debut early in 2006. |
