IT'S HUGE!
The Matrix Reloaded is already shattering box office records. According to industry estimates, the much-hyped sequel's Wednesday-night screenings brought in roughly $9.3 million — the largest preview gross in history. The original record holder was Jurassic Park, which grossed $3.1 million in 1993.
CREEK KILLS
Wednesday's Dawson's Creek finale — in which Joey chose Pacey over Dawson — was one for the history books. The two-hour swan song was seen by more than 7 million viewers and notched record ratings for the Frog network among adults 18-34 and women 18-34.
INJURED
Halle Berry broke her arm while filming a "physically demanding" scene for her upcoming supernatural thriller Gothika in Canada, a Warner Bros. rep confirms. The Oscar winner was treated at a Montreal hospital and released. It's unclear what impact this will have on the production, which is only midway through a nine-week shoot.
BIG GET
Barbara Walters has scored an exclusive interview with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to air Sunday, June 8 — the day before her book Living History arrives in stores. Walters reportedly beat out NBC's Katie Couric and ABC colleague Diane Sawyer for the much-sought-after interview.
CAGE'S RIGHTS
Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in a film version of the popular video game Dead to Rights, Variety reports. Cage will play a disgraced cop hunting for the person who murdered his father.
FAREWELL
Grammy-winning singer/songwriter June Carter Cash, the wife of country legend Johnny Cash, died Thursday of complications from heart surgery. She was 73. She had been in critical condition since undergoing surgery last week to replace a heart valve.
WATCH AND WASTE
Disney is testing out a new disposable DVD to be sold in nontraditional retail outlets like supermarkets and drugstores. The discs — which will go for around $5 a pop — will self-destruct 48 hours after they're opened, turning into nothing more than a drink coaster. Rumor has it, Jennifer Lopez films will come with an instant self-destruct option.
ALL-AMERICAN GIRLS
Besides Alicia Keys, American Idol champ Kelly Clarkson and Destiny's Child hottie Beyonce Knowles are both in negotiations to guest-star as 1960s pop idols on American Dreams next season. No word yet on whom the singing sensations will be playing.
VERY CLOSE FRIENDS
At last! In Thursday night's sublime Friends season finale, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) kissed longtime crush Rachel ( Jennifer Aniston)! Plus, Ross (David Schwimmer) hooked up with fellow paleontologist Charlie (Aisha Tyler), and, rather than accept a marriage proposal from David (Hank Azaria), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) reunited with ex-boyfriend Mike (Paul Rudd). But, although love was in the air, our favorite part was still watching ultracompetitive Monica (the underrated, if not underpaid, Courteney Cox) engage in a heated ping-pong match with Mike. And her out-of-control mane had me laughing so hard I snorted Snapple all over my shag carpet.
SUDDENLY A MOTHER
Brooke Shields gave birth to a baby girl Thursday in New York. This is the first child for the 37-year-old actress and her TV writer/producer Chris Henchy. There's no word on the baby's name, but I personally hope they go with Emmeline.
