Entertainer Diana Ross Faces Drunk Driving Charge Dec 31, 4:07 am ET PHOENIX (Reuters) - Singer-actress Diana Ross was cited for investigation of drunk driving on Monday in southern Arizona, police said. Ross, who rose to fame as a member of The Supremes, had a blood-alcohol of 0.20 -- more than twice the legal limit -- when the vehicle she was driving was stopped at 12:30 a.m. in Tucson, said Sgt. Judy Altieri, a police spokeswoman. Ross, 58, was ticketed for three misdemeanors, including driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08 and driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.15, known as extreme DUI. A Jan. 13 initial court appearance has been tentatively scheduled. Police said that they pulled over the vehicle after a report that the car had been swerving and that Ross was cooperative during the incident. She was released and taken to where she was staying at the time, authorities said. Neither Ross nor her spokesman could be reached for comment late on Monday. In May of this year, she checked into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Malibu, California, before the start of a summer tour. At the time, her publicist told reporters she entered the center "to clear up some personal issues." In September of 1999, Ross was detained for about five hours in London over an alleged assault on a security guard at Heathrow Airport. The woman guard complained that she was assaulted as she attempted a body search on Ross after a metal detector was triggered. The singer was released without being charged. |
